Happy New Year to you and your family,Gong Xi Fa Cai. I drove from KL to Muazam Shah on the eve of CNY to fetch my son who is in UNITEN. He had a test on one of his subjects on the 5th Feb.
Just to share with you the road network from KL to Muazam Shah and to Segamat to Tangkak and finally to Sungai Mati.
From KL to Seremban, I took the NSE to Seremban, nothing adventurous, just a highway familiar to everybody. Exit at PD interchange and follow the directions to Kuala Pilah. This is where the journey begins!
Seremban traffic is a breeze. There're drivers in Myvi, Wira Honda Accord who drive on the outer lane but going at Morris Minor speed. No, I didn't honk at them, drive like a local but at the same time cursing to myself at their driving attitude.
We passed towns like Ampangan, Terrachi, and Tanjung Ipoh. Ha! this is where the jouney begins. I bet you haven't heard of these towns before. We crossed the main range (remember your geography?) winding and mountainous roads much like Cameron Highlands roads. We reached Kuala Pilah town and headed towards Bahau. No, you don't have to turn into Bahau town but drive straight to Jempol junction. Take a right turn to Jempol direction, otherwise you'll end up in Temerloh. From there, it's a 85km straight road to the Segamat Kuantan Highway. Very few cars and straight roads can be very temting. I hit 120 kmph without even knowing it. The road is very monotonous, nothing much but oil palm plantations on either side. They're Felda schemes like Keratong {heard of this town) and bandar Tun Abdul Razak.
After a 1 hour monotous drive we reached the Segamat Kuantan Highway. Took a left and we reached Muazam Shah at about 2.30 pm.Though Highway in name, it's actually a two lane normal trunk road. Went straight to the hostel to pick up my son.
We entered the 'highway' again and headed towards Segamat. This road is more scenic and traffic is heavier. Still the thrill to speed is too tempting. Hit 120 again.
Saw a signboard to bypass Segamat town and went through a real Kampong road. 20 km with we passed maybe 5 cars only, either direction before we entered the road to Tangkak. Finally I am in familiar territory and entering Johor state. Passed through Jementah, enterance to Gunong Ledang, Sagil before reaching Tangkak, where we had a quick Kentucky snack. We were hungry you see,
Reached Sungai Mati after about 2 hrs. After a few trips, I'm like an expert travelling through these roads. You can never find maps that take you through the roads that I went describe to you.
