MORAL Issue

NST August 17, 2008
Should leaders caught in the sex scandals or who have had brushes with the law be judged on standards of morality or their ability to deliver?
Paris Hilton survived it,as did
Pamela Anderson and others Hollywood stars. So did former United States president Bill Clinton.
Is the ability of the leader more crucial, superseding his morality?
Should politicians or leaders be judged on their standards of morality?
Should their actions, even if not against the law, negate their contributions to society and country?
Are their private matters no business of the public? Or should the fact that they are role models preclude them from position of authority?
A political analyst quoted that it would be harder to come back from a sex-related controversy, compares with a financial scandal, for example.
Rightly or wrongly, the crux of it is that a leader's career will lightly be scattered to the four winds once caught, or even if he is perceived to have done wrong, no matter which side eventually prevails in the morality versus ability debate.

what confucius mean is food and sex are just two basic human needs . i think i should say human needs rather than behaviour thanks for the highlight.

What a person does in private is very personal and everybody should respect him or her. What Anwar, CSL, or Miss Chu(Taiwan) did or didn't do was very personal and nobody should be a busy body or try to impose moral values on these people.

of course if you are a public official, everyone has the right to judge your behavior since you are an elected man by the public. if you want to tell others it's not your business , then don't run for public office, then we will not base your character n word from your private life since it is irrelevant to our country n youngsters.
