Khir urges Abdullah to lay out retirement plans
PETALING JAYA: Another Umno supreme council leader has called on Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to draw up his retirement plan and pass the baton to his deputy Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak.
Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Khir Toyo made the call in his blog at drkhir.blogspot.com.
“Abdullah must draw up an exit plan that should include turning over the party’s and country’s leadership to Najib. This is my humble and personal view,” he said in his April 12 posting.
It would be best for the two leaders to execute the transition in a smooth and orderly manner, he added.
However, the Sungai Panjang state assemblyman said the transition should not drag on so as not to affect the smooth running of the country or the party’s preparation for the next general election.
“Umno leaders like myself and other division chiefs have been trained to respect the leadership. To openly ask Pak Lah to resign is the very last resort. Normally, we use metaphors or indirect statements and hope our intentions are understood,” said Dr Khir.
On the party, Dr Khir said Umno must re-look the concentrated power vested in the president, as well as the quota system used for elections for the top leadership.
Meanwhile, party information chief Senator Tan Sri Muhammad Muhammad Taib said Umno's leadership transition process should be maintained.
He said party members should immediately stop calling for Abdullah's resignation.
“It is very un-Malay to call for the Prime Minister to resign,” he said.
To Me : It is unbecoming of any party member ( Especially like him ) to voice out things like this...

1 Wednesday April 2, 2008 Former Selangor Mentri Besar declares he has nothing to hide
PETALING JAYA: Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo has challenged his critics who say that he is corrupt to investigate him.
“Sila siasat dari bawah ke atas. (Come investigate me from the ground up),” said the former Selangor Mentri Besar, who added that he had nothing to hide.
“I have done nothing wrong. All the work I have done is in accordance with procedures. I challenge the present government to try and find anything on me.
I have done nothing wrong. All the work I have done is in accordance with procedures. I challenge the present government to try and find anything on me. — DATUK SERI DR MOHD KHIR TOYO
“If I am afraid, I would not challenge them,” he said during the question-and-answer session at the Umno Post 12th General Election: An Assessment forum organised by mykmu.net here. Dr Khir, who was heckled numerous times at the forum, said he was prepared to give out his bank account number so that people who did not believe him could look at how much he had in his accounts.
He said it was “not intellectual” for people to believe “stories” and have perceptions about him if they did not investigate whether it was true.
Stressing that everything he had carried out as the Mentri Besar was above board, he said: “The exco homes we purchased are all state assets and the present government is now benefiting from it.”
He said he had left assets worth RM1.5bil and another RM500mil and numerous shares to the new government.
Dr Khir has been the target of allegations of corruption including an SMS which accused him of having bought TOL (temporary occupancy licence) land in Kajang for RM2 per sq ft and made the state development corporation buy it back at RM22 per sq ft, hence pocketing RM59mil. Recently, the PKR-led state government, led by Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim, said it was going to sell the luxury Selangor exco homes.
Dr Khir said he took responsibility for whatever he had done as Mentri Besar, adding that the Anti-Corruption Agency came in and looked at tenders from the states as well as land approvals. He was responding to questions from the floor as to why Umno seemed to be a party for the wealthy, a place for “Datuk, Datuk” with contracts and huge bungalow houses.
He was also questioned on why Barisan had fielded unsuitable candidates in the recent general election and if the Prime Minister’s son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin had any influence in determining the candidates.
To this, Dr Khir said he was the one who gave the names for Barisan candidates in Selangor and this was scrutinised by the Prime Minister, Deputy Prime Minister and party secretary-general. “But I will admit that there were some outside influences,” he added.
