case 1:- Ustaz' drug dealer nabbed
An "ustaz" (religous teacher) was nabbed by police on suspicion of being a drug dealer in Kampung Beris Kubor Besar here recently. The man in his 60s who always wore Arabic robes was detained while heading for home on his motorcycle after delivering a sermon at the kampung's surau.
Bachok police chief DSP Yahya Salleh said on inspecting his home, police found tens of pornographic VCDs in his bedroom. "Initially he denied that he was dealing in drugs but when the police officers threatened to expose him at the surau along with his pornographic VCDs, he led them to where he had hidden the drugs," he told Bernama here today. He added that the suspect had been remanded at the Pengkalan Chepa Prison pending further investigations. -- BERNAMA
Case 2 :- Singapore’s top Buddhist monk has lived a lavish lifestyle with branded goods and nine gold credit cards, according to a report in the Sunday Times.
“We are living in a modern world,” the newspaper quoted monk Ming Yi as telling auditors and police during an investigation into a charity hospital that he headed.
The report said Ming Yi was a high-end shopper who spent on brands like Louis Vuitton and Montblanc, and had given three supplementary credit cards to his friends, including a monk based in Hong Kong.
“A lot of religious people, not only myself, are very different now,” he was reported as saying. The 47-year-old former chief executive officer of a charity-run hospital is under investigation for making an unauthorised loan of S$50,000 (RM123,768) to a friend. The loan is also the subject of a court case.
